August - Drive & Dine - Mountain Tour IV
Our mountain touring group of
25 cars and 47 people are just
waiting for August 13th to
begin our fantastic journey ! !
This is a picture of last year's group and their cars in front of the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC. -------------------------- >
This year's planned trip has a little bit of excitement for everybody and yes, ladies I listened to you, too ! The dates of the trip this year, with all of the scheduling gotcha's, will be August 13th - 16th.
First we'll depart from Jacksonville on Friday the 13th (if you can believe that). We'll head north on I-95 to Savannah (Pooler) to the Gate tation on SR-80 to meet the Hilton Head PCA group who will also be joining us again this year. Then we'll meander up the big roads of Georgia, with a stop for lunch, to reach our first night's destination - Helen, GA, a quaint German village nestled in the north Georgia foothills. We should arrive early enough for the ladies to get in a little "retail therapy". Dinner that evening will be at an authentic Ger
man restaurant called "The Old Bavaria Inn" http://www.theoldbavariainnrest.com/ where we will enjoy the taste of wines and foods of Germany. By the way, the restaurant is within walking distance of the motel.
Saturday morning the 14th, we'll depart for a full day of mountain road touring to include riding our trusty steeds to Tellico Plains to start our scenic touring on the Cherohala Skyway, then we'll stop for lunch at the Fontana Village Resort Hotel (a past favorite hotel), and then a ride on the infamous "Tail of the Dragon",{READ THE DETAILS} http://www.tailofthedragon.com/. Then there will be a leasure cruise to our final destination for the day, the historical Chattanooga Choo-Choo Hotel http://www.choochoo.com/ in Chattanooga, TN where that evening our dinner will be served in our own separate dining room.
Sunday morning the 15th, we'll spend the day visiting the Tennessee Aquarium. Can you believe it's the highest rated aquarium in the United States? http://www.tnaqua.org/Home.aspx. We'll pre-purchase a day package ($48.95 per person) that will give us entry to the aquarium, an IMAX movie, and a few hours cruise on a river boat down the Tennessee River. All of that followed by another dinner at our historic hotel. By the way, don't forget to take time to visit the model train museum in the hotel and see some of the train cars that you could actually spend the night in.
Monday the 16th, it's unfortunately time to head back south toward home for us all after what's hopefully been another fun filled weekend trip.
OK, so how do I sign up for this trip ?
First, you will need to make your reservations at the following hotels -
Quality Inn Motel - Helen, GA
Phone (1-706-878-2268) for one night, August 13th @ 79.99 + taxes per night
Chattanooga Choo-Choo Hotel - Chattanooga,TN

I have blocked a certain number of rooms at each of the hotels that will only be held for our group until JULY 23rd then they will be released back to the general public. When you call to make your reservation, tell them that you are with the Jacksonville Porsche Club to receive the special blocked room rates.
Second, send me an e-mail saying that you are coming on the trip to wcruss@bellsouth.net with your hotel reservation numbers.
Several weeks prior to our trip, I will need to pre-purchase tickets and schedule times for our Aquarium, IMAX, and Cruise adventures. Sooooo, everyone will need to send me a check made payable to: Florida Crown Region PCA for $48.95 per person in your car by August 1st. Mail your checks to me at 1516 Derringer Road, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
Third, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, I will need a contact (name and telephone number) back home, so that we can notify that person in the event of an emergency while you are on our trip.
I look forward to hearing from you soon!
If you have questions, give me a call (H) 904-646-1111 or (C) 904-502-4956.
