May 2010 Drive & Dine - Police & Astronaut Halls of Fame
Today, the Florida Crown early birds met at our gathering point, McDonald's on St. Augustine Road just off of I-95, for a quick breakfast bite before pointing our Porsches southbound toward Titusville for our visit to the American Police Hall of Fame. Continuing south on I-95 and going by one of the St. Augustine exits, we also added three more members to our caravan, two from St. Augustine and one from Gainesville.
After a little over a two hour drive, we were all famished so we did what we do best as good FCR members, found a good place for lunch. In this case, it was the Dixie Crossroads Seafood restaurant in Titusville, yum-yum!!! After a relaxing and filling lunch, we were ready to take on our main objective of the day, the American Police Hall of Fame, about a ten minute drive from the restaurant.
After taking the obligatory trip picture in front of the building, we went inside to purchase our tickets, begin the self-guided tour, and head for the gun range to get off a few rounds. The museum was extremely interesting, with police historical memorabilia of all types, weapons, badges and patches. Most notable was the "Memorial of Fallen Policemen" who had lost their lives in the line of duty. Several members tried their hand at the gun range, where they had the opportunity to sharpen their skills.
Since the Astronaut Hall of Fame was across the street from the Police Hall of Fame, many of us made the trek next door for a quick look at their museum as well, before loading up the wagons and making the return trip back to Jacksonville, Gainesville, and St. Augustine. Another good day was had by all.
