May High Performance Driver Education – canceled for Memorial Day Weekend
May 26 @ 8:00 am - May 28 @ 5:00 pm
To all Florida Crown members:
Due to a low number of registrations for the May Florida Crown Roebling Road DE, a decision was made to cancel the event. The number of drivers registered as of mid April did not meet our standard relative to the timing of the event in May.
For those members still interested in driving Roebling on Memorial weekend, Hooked on Driving has taken the date. If interested, you can find the event listed on their website.
For those members who like to plan ahead, mark your calendar for the Florida Crown Roebling DE event scheduled for January 20, 21 2024.
Porsche Club of America’s Driver Education Program provides a safe, structured and controlled teaching and learning environment. The PCA DE Florida Crown Program is designed so that participants can improve their driving abilities and acquire a better understanding of vehicle dynamics and driving safety. Participants will experience first-hand the capabilities of high performance automobiles in a controlled, closed-course environment and acquire skills that will enhance safer vehicle operation in all driving situations.
One giant word of caution: this adventure can become very addictive. Our instructors will teach you to drive your Porsche the way Stuttgart designed it to be driven. PCA DE schools are run in a safe and controlled environment on a closed course. Like any new sport your instructor will guide you into this exciting world of high performance driving. These weekends are great sources of stories for the Monday morning coffee break. You will have dreams about various turns and wake up with memories of your instructor yelling BRAKE or DON’T LIFT. These schools are truly the only safe way to learn the engineering dynamics that went into the development of this famous racing marque. However, it is noted that PCA DE events are not racing, nor preparation for racing. No times or placings are recorded, and no awards or prizes are received by the participants of PCA Driver Education events; just a lot of fun and camaraderie. Any conduct considered by the Porsche Club of America to be either unsafe or inconsistent with the spirit or purpose of the Driver Education Program will not be permitted. This approach keeps the events safe for all participants!

Description |
The Florida Crown Region Driver’s Education Series will open to PCA and non-PCA members at Roebling Road Raceway on May 27 & 28, 2023; we welcome all makes and models, including convertibles with the proper roll over protection. Please note: RRR DOES NOT permit EVs (electric vehicles) on-track. There is potential for RRR to amend their current position. Please check back for any updates.
***Special note about convertibles: Any convertible or Cabrio delivered with factory-installed roll-over protection meets the minimum standards for PCA DE events. In these cars we recommend the soft-top be in the up position or the hardtop installed. If the top is in the down position, an arm restraint system (SFI and/or FIA approved) must be used. If a convertible or Cabrio does not have factory-installed roll-over protection, a roll bar or roll cage must be installed, which satisfies the “broomstick” test (the driver’s helmeted head is below a bar placed on top of the roll bar and windshield). All Targa tops must be installed unless there is additional roll-over protection. All sunroofs must be in the closed position. The windshield alone is not considered to be factory roll-over protection. All cars entered in the event must have fenders attached to the vehicle body at all four wheels. The event requirements are: (1) Drivers must be 18 or older with a valid driver’s license to enter (2) Your vehicle has to be safety-checked by an ASE mechanic within 30 days of the event and this requirement includes Instructors. Additionally, a separate final tech will be completed by our tech team at the track (a confirmation email with a link to the approved tech-form will be emailed to you once you complete and pay for your registration) – the tech form is always available in the event files section of this event and named: FCR PCA Tech Inspection Form.pdf. (3) As of January 1st, 2022, SA2010 / SAH2010 are no longer accepted at PCA events. You must have an SA2020 / SAH2020 or SA2015 / SAH2015 helmet (no motorcycle helmets permitted). (4) As of January 1st, 2019, it is mandatory for a Head and Neck Restraint (HANS) to be used in cars with harnesses. (5) Cars can be shared but each driver must register individually and run in a different run group. (6) If you have a mechanical issue on track (i.e., dropping of fluids such as oil, coolant, etc.) that requires oil dry absorbent to be used you are responsible for the cost. Our events are multi-purpose with a focus on teaching drivers with little to no track experience the fundamentals of high-performance driving. We also accommodate those that have advanced skills and want additional track time. Note that this is NOT A TEST & TUNE NOR RACING event, but drivers’ education. If you desire these types of formats, do NOT register for this event. REGISTRATION: You must perform two things to be confirmed. Please note that If you have NOT signed the waiver or have NOT paid, your registration will be placed on a waiting list. First come – first served. These events are very well attended and routinely fill and close for registration 2 weeks before the date of the event. Your registration includes a Friday night pizza social at the track, an event T shirt or similar and tentatively, a BBQ dinner at the track Saturday evening (catered by Jim/Nick’s BBQ). A decision, regarding whether or not the BBQ dinner is offered, will be made closer to the event date and will be dependent upon the number of registrants. Our HQ hotel for the event will be the Marriott Spring Hill Suites Savannah Airport, located at One Jay R. Turner Drive, Savannah, GA 31408 (exit 104 off I95). Hotel Code is SAVSA. The hotel’s phone number is 912 330 5555 or 888 287 9400. Please mention Porsche Florida Crown Group, Group Code is CRO, to receive the group rate. Because this is a holiday weekend, room rates are higher. A slightly discounted rate of $139.00 is offered to the first 20 registrants who call the hotel for reservations. Once those 20 rooms are sold, the rate will be $149.00 for all other reservations. Apex Performance will be supporting this PCA Florida Crown DE event at Roebling Road. They will have communicators, head & neck restraints, helmets, and gloves. If you need something in particular (brakes, fluids, harnesses, any apparel-suits-shoes, etc.) Please let Linda know by May 17th so they have time to get items either packed or shipped directly to the track. Clark & Linda, www.apexperformance.net or 843-299-0997. Please note that the event Registrar will assign the run group. Each selected car number is assigned to a single car per event (not per run group). The driver is responsible for their numbers (the event does not provide them). CAMPING: Camping for the weekend is permitted at the track. All campsites are first-come, first-served, so please do not contact the track for a spot. Not all campsites have water. Also, there is no Dump Station at RRR. Please select the appropriate option and make payment on club registration. The fee is $50 for RVs and $20 for tents for the weekend and covers the cost of nighttime security at the track. MEDICAL: HPDE events will expose participants to mental stress, high acceleration, turning, and braking. You will also encounter high temperatures, loud noises, and vibrations. TECH INSPECTIONS: ALL vehicles must pass a tech inspection at an ASE-certified technician/shop within a 30 day period prior to the event. The technical inspection is required of all registrants, including Instructors. Any reputable ASE-certified technician, auto shop, or dealership – preferably one who is familiar with your make or model – should be able to perform a tech inspection on your vehicle. GARAGES: there are 12 garages at the track, with rates of $60 for one day and $80 for two days. RRR does take names for these, and has a “list”, but does not collect money until the driver arrives at the track. Please contact RRR at 912-748-4205. TRACK-DAY INSURANCE: Your auto insurance usually does not cover driving your car on a racetrack. Crown does not endorse one provider versus another. Here are links to several track day insurance writers: www.locktonmotorsports.com, www.opentrack.com, www.hagerty.com. Questions? You can contact Crown Region Registrar, Charlie King at bronco22@bellsouth.net or Chief Driving Instructor, Jim Burnett, via email at 111margaret@att.net. |
