FCR Putnam Hotel Tour Recap
The FCR Tour at the historic Putnam Hotel was a resounding success! Built in 1927 by the Putnam Lumber Company, the hotel’s rare pecky cypress and fine hardwoods provided a beautiful backdrop for our gathering. The restoration in 2014 truly preserved its old-world charm, and guests enjoyed the ambiance that once welcomed Al Capone and served as a bootlegger meeting point during Prohibition.
Our adventure began in Green Cove Springs, where two enthusiastic tour groups set off together. The drive through North Florida’s scenic backroads was memorable, especially as we passed the institution where Ted Bundy was sentenced. The stories and history added a unique touch to our journey.
Lunch in High Springs was delicious and gave everyone a chance to relax and connect. The drive to the Putnam Hotel continued along peaceful, lightly traveled roads, and upon arrival, guests were delighted by the property’s welcoming atmosphere. Many took the opportunity to stroll around the grounds or venture out to Horseshoe Beach, known as “Florida’s Last Frontier.”
The hotel rooms exceeded expectations—clean, fresh, and pet-friendly, making everyone feel right at home. Dinner at the 1927 Steakhouse was a highlight, with fantastic food and great company within the lodge’s historic walls.
With only 20 rooms available, the event felt intimate and special. Thanks to everyone who mentioned the PORSCHE Club for their discount, and for making reservations on time. The camaraderie, stories, and laughter made this tour truly unforgettable.
We look forward to more adventures together!
