PCA Autocross at the Firm 3.21.26
| 8 runs at an autocross is rare. The March event at The Firm was a success. Thanks to Dottie & Steve Kidd (Gold Coast Region); Hans Mandt, Janet & Partrick O’Donnell, and the members who showed up to stage the event.
Hans Mandt has a great relationship with Jacksonville Porsche. We can store the 2 pop up tents, coolers, and pylons on the 2nd level above the parts department in the new service center. Those pylons don’t grow legs and walk in and out of there! Patrick joined Hans and I for a pylon party twice. Taking them out for the autocross and then making sure they went back into storage. Patrick, Steve, and I are all autocross chairs that have served in different regions. Dottie and Janet are autocross wives, drivers, and instructors. The event allowed 8 runs, in part because the preplanning and preparation was done well. We are lucky to have a great relationship with the local SCCA autocrossers. SCCA/PCA members Bill Traub, Dean Crook, and Craig Tomeo were at the track early to set the pylons out according to the map we provided to entrants. Bill Traub brought his laptop for a back up plan if we needed it. You couldn’t ask for better weather in March. It was a really nice day. Drivers swapped out after 3 or 4 runs to go work the course so the other drivers could run. FCR is blessed with a deep pool of instructors who are willing to help instruct drivers who will benefit from someone in the passenger seat. I don’t want to miss anyone who helped but I had the pleasure of meeting a long time FCR member who has never instructed at an autocross before. Bob Harrington, a retired USN Captain, did a great job and hopefully we will see Bob at other events. |
