DAYTONA HISTORIC RACES

It all began on Saturday, November 4, with a Cars and Coffee meet at Jacksonville Porsche. Arrival started around 8 AM with many different years and models of Porsches showing up. At 9:30, three caravan lines of about 100 Porsches were formed.
The caravans left Jacksonville Porsche and headed south for a relatively short drive to Bill Murray’s CaddyShack restaurant in St. Augustine’s World Golf Village. There we had a short respite until around 11 AM. After a brief drivers meeting, we all headed out to Daytona International Speedway for the Annual Historic races.
At Daytona, a Porsche car corral had been set up in honor of the 75th anniversary of Porsche, where once again we could ogle each other’s Porsche.
Florida Crown members were able to join a few other Marques to drive a few laps in a lead follow format around the track.  It was only in driving the laps around Daytona that one gets to appreciate how steep the walls are on the Daytona Oval. We all drove below the black line and never got up on the high end of the wall. Yet when looking straight at the 30 degree angle of the raceway wall you could almost hear Pink Floyd playing “Up Against the Wall”.
After the laps, we dispersed to head home or stay for the remainder of the races. It was a wonderful day for FCR members.
